Catch of the Day
Spider crabs don’t stand a chance with a seagull around! This was a common sight, but not usually as photogenic.

 • Catch of the Day
Spider crabs don’t stand a chance with a seagull around! This was a common sight, but not usually as photogenic.
 • Solitude
The plovers at this site were definitely a couple, but were seldom found scavenging for food at the same time. This one on its own didn’t feel lonely, just glad for a moment to itself.
 • Digging Deep
Sandpipers always had their beaks in the sand, and were usually rewarded with snack.
 • Fiddler on the Shore
A lone fiddler crab took the high road, escaping from the eels waiting just under the water's surface.
 • Privacy Please!
The mating dance of least terns is quite a spectacle-hither and thither, to and fro-all in clear view of all to observe. This pair seemed to tire of the attention, glaring right at the camera to express their dismay.
 • If Barnacles Could Talk...
What a tale these would tell! This female horeshoe crab is one of the lucky ones who has enjoyed many mating seasons, and had one more chance thanks to this photographer who rescued her from the high tide line and put her back in the bay.
 • Watch the Snake!
What a surprise to find a snake dangling from the Osprey’s nest. Clearly this unlucky serpent is the main course for dinner at this house!
 • Fiddler Army
Low tide put this army of fiddler crabs on the move. This mudflat was covered with them scurrying from one hole to another hiding from predators and mid-July sun.
 • Soaring Osprey
The opportunity to capture an Osprey soaring overhead with its wings backlit is rare. The light clouds in the sky gave just the right texture.
 • Multi-Level Housing
Abandoned seashells stacked like a seaside apartement complex. Hopefully the tenants moved on to bigger digs, and were not a tasty meal for a hungry shorebird!
 • Fish Wish
Watching an osprey fish is awe-inspiring. This family enjoyed a tasty bit of Peconic Bay sushi
 • Great Egret
Capturing this majestic beauty in flight was a great challenge. It required the right combination of light, proximity to the bird and wing position to create an image that showcases the finer points of this beautiful creature.
 • No Tresspassing
With young in the nest, this Osprey was taking no chances, and watched the photographer’s every move. The photographer just prayed there would be no gift from above to chase us off. How do you get Osprey poop off a camera lens? All ended well, right after this capture, we moved away.
 • Turnstone Two-Step
These Ruddy Turnstones seemed to be doing an avian game of Simon Says. Every step one took, the other followed. So amusing to watch.
 • Looking for a Sign
This Eastern Kingbird loved this perch, and was often found there planning its next move, or singing its heart out--attracting a mate perhaps? Or defending its territory, more likely. The pickings were ripe at the edge of the marsh.
